ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

Legacy Development Initiative (LDI) is an indigenous Malawian non-profit organization registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act of Malawi as well as CONGOMA and is located in Mzuzu working northern region of Malawi including Chitipa, Karonga, Rumphi, Mzimba, Nkhatabay and Likoma Island. LDI was established in 2013 and works in partnership with churches, communities, community-based organizations, civil society organizations and the government to fight and eradicate poverty.

The organization was formed out of compassion and justice for the underprivileged groups in the northern region of Malawi by challenging the local community structures committed to working together in finding pro-active solutions to challenges affecting the community members. The organization responses to merciless challenges facing communities in areas of education, health, hunger, poverty, water, sanitation and hygiene, economic empowerment, capacity building and community mobilization as well as youth entrepreneurship, leadership and development.

The vision of Legacy Development Initiative (LDI) is “a local community with capacity to facilitate holistic sustainable transformational development in Malawi.”

OUR OBJECTIVES

  1. To mobilize, equip and support the local community networks to champion the cause of improved access to holistic sustainable development.
  2. By itself and in partnership with others to build the capacity of staff to execute duties for the benefit of the local community.
  3. To mobilize resources for the organizational development to discharge its vision.

OUR VALUES

Love: We believe that we are Christians because of God’s love for us demonstrated in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, we have to demonstrate Christ’s love through service to the needy communities.

Passion: We are enthusiastic about working with local communities facing various plights such as poverty, morbidity and mortality as a result of various diseases. We believe that passion is indispensable for us to realize our vision and mission.

Partnerships: We believe that challenges facing the local communities have reached proportions beyond single handed approach. Partnerships are; therefore, important for us to realize our vision. Our work has no rival institutions since we believe in enhancement of partnerships for knowledge diversity, sustainability of innovations and quality life for the underprivileged.

Justice: We believe that God is just and fair since He has endowed everyone with the potential to transform their lives. Our quest; therefore, is to ensure fair distribution of the resources we are entrusted with for the benefit of everyone we serve to realize their fullest potential.

Accountability: We believe that we are but just stewards of all the resources that are at our disposal. The resources are meant for the transformation of impoverished and marginalized communities. Accountability, transparency and prudence are thus paramount in all our operations.
